Jennifer McGarr is a Senior Lecturer in TU Dublin Tallaght Campus where she lectures on the Applied Social Care programme and supervises students on practice placement. Prior to this, Jennifer spent fifteen years working in Social Care across a variety of residential and community contexts. On the programme on which she teaches, she delivers a module on trauma, resilience and trauma informed practice, and has authored a chapter in Social Care Work: An Introduction for Students in Ireland (Lalor et al., 2023) entitled 'Adopting a trauma-informed approach, skills and strategies for social care interventions'. Jennifer's research interests include working with trauma in social care, diversity and social inclusion, and pedagogical approaches to practice teaching. In conjunction with a colleague, Jennifer has developed a teaching framework for social care education, and is currently completing a PhD on migrant integration within an Irish context, with a particular focus on the lived experience of African women adapting to life in Ireland. She is a member of the Irish Association of Social Care Educators, sits on the Board of Directors of Social Care Ireland (SCI) and chairs the SCI Education Advisory Group. Jennifer is passionate about worker well-being and interested in how social care as a field of practice can best support workers in their direct work with service users.
